The sky appears blue during the day because of a phenomenon called Rayleigh scattering. When sunlight enters Earth’s atmosphere, it collides with tiny air molecules. These molecules scatter the light in all directions. Blue and violet light, having shorter wavelengths, are scattered more strongly than other colors, making the sky appear blue. Our eyes are also more sensitive to blue light, further contributing to the perception of a blue sky.
