      Dimples arise from a genetic defect in a facial muscle particularly the zygomaticus major muscle. Individuals with dimples have a shortened facial muscle compared to people who don’t have.

      It is interesting to note that dimples are facial traits that inherited and can be passed down from one generation to the next.
