An omnivore consuming a diet of organisms lower on the food chain (like plants and small animals) could benefit from increased energy efficiency and potentially a wider range of nutrients. Lower trophic levels generally have a higher energy density (more energy per unit of mass) and may offer a more diverse array of vitamins and minerals.
