The procedure of a CT scan depend on the target area. Fasting may be required for some parts like the abdomen and chest.

Since CT scan use very strong magnets it is important to remove all metallic accessories and report to the doctor any that can not be removed eg teeth or those used in reconstruction of broken bones or joints.

Prior to the CT scan the doctor will want the patient to give medical history, pre-existing conditions, medication in use and declare allergies if any.

Patients are also require to change into gowns to avoid interferances from objects such as buttons and zippers in other clothes.

There is the positioning on the bench used during the CT scans and instruction by the technolgist performing the procedure.
