When the body’s immune system destroys beta cells in the pancreas, it leads to Type 1 diabetes. These beta cells are responsible for producing insulin, a hormone that regulates blood sugar levels. Without sufficient insulin, glucose cannot enter the body’s cells, causing blood sugar levels to rise, which can lead to various health complications.
