Michael Kimwele answered on 16 Jul 2025:

As a scientist, I have made impactful contributions to research, innovation, and education in the field of Information Technology. I have supervised eight PhD students to completion in cutting-edge areas such as machine learning, cybersecurity, data anonymization, and content-based image retrieval. I have led and participated in major collaborative projects including the AFRICA-ai-JAPAN initiative, where I oversaw acquisition of advanced ICT equipment and managed research grants that strengthened university–industry linkages. I have coordinated transformative partnerships with global tech leaders such as Huawei and IBM, securing over KES 40 million in ICT infrastructure and training support for JKUAT. I have served in key leadership roles, including Director of the School of Computing and Information Technology, Acting Principal of the College of Pure and Applied Sciences, and Deputy Director, during which I championed quality assurance, curriculum innovation, and strategic collaborations. I have also contributed nationally as a reviewer for the National Research Fund, the Botswana Academy of Science, and as a technical expert for the Open University of Kenya and TVET CDACC. I have been recognized for my dedication through several national awards and nominations, and I continue to serve as Head Judge for the Technology Category at Young Scientists Kenya, inspiring youth in STEM. Through these achievements, I have remained committed to advancing responsive, inclusive, and sustainable technological solutions for Africa.
