A person may have difficulty controlling themselves while urinatingāknown as urinary incontinenceāunder several conditions, including weakened pelvic floor muscles, nerve damage, urinary tract infections, or bladder disorders. Medical conditions such as diabetes, stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinsonās disease, or spinal cord injuries can interfere with nerve signals between the brain and bladder, leading to a loss of bladder control. Additionally, aging, certain medications, prostate issues in men, and hormonal changes in women (especially after childbirth or menopause) can also contribute to difficulties in managing urination, often resulting in leakage, urgency, or inability to fully empty the bladder.
