They can reproduce in two main ways: asexually (by themselves) or sexually (mixing with another fungus).

Asexually, fungi make spores through mitosis, where a single fungus produces identical spores that float away on air, water, or animals to grow new fungi. For example, mold on bread releases spores that spread to make more mold.

Sexually, two different fungi combine their genetic material to form spores with mixed traits, which happens in mushrooms when special cells merge under the cap. These spores then land somewhere, like soil, and grow into new fungi if conditions are right (warm and moist).

Some fungi also spread by breaking off pieces of themselves, like budding in yeast, where a small cell pops off to grow independently. This variety helps fungi thrive almost anywhere!
