Girls tend to mature earlier than boys especial at pre-teen and teenage stages because they optimize brain connections earlier. Optimization of brain connection is also refered to as neural pruning where unused connections are ptimmed to optimise the important connections. The most afected part are regions for emotional regulation, decision making and impulse control.
