It is important for a new baby to cry after birth because crying helps clear the baby’s lungs of amniotic fluid and stimulates the start of normal breathing. While in the womb, a baby receives oxygen through the placenta, but after birth, the baby must begin using its lungs to breathe. The first cry is a strong indication that the baby’s lungs have expanded and are functioning properly, allowing oxygen to flow through the bloodstream. This cry also helps regulate the baby’s heart rate and body temperature.
@Gray20kue,
Thank you for this question.
A newborn first cry is very important and signifies good health.
Before birth the baby’s requirements for life (Nourishment) are supplied by the mother through the umbilical cord. Once the cord is cut at birth the supply is interrupted and that triggers the body to substitute the supply by stimulation the lungs to start functioning. That stimulus is manifested in form of a cry; the first cry.
The first cry signifies the first breath and play an important role in the lung development.
When a baby cries at birth, everyone is actually very happy.
The first cry helps inflate the lungs and clear fluid from the airways. It means the lungs are working, the baby is breathing, and the nervous system is responding appropriately to the environment. A silent baby at birth may signal breathing problems and needs immediate medical attention.
